Nicolas Laty

Nicolas Laty verrier sud de la France-Biot

Born in Nice in 1976, it was an encounter with Jean-Claude Novaro that led Nicolas to the world of glass.

His works take us back to our childhood, and their imaginative side draws us into a fantastic universe. With a confident gesture, Nicolas sculpts laughing eyes, a cheeky expression, a comical posture that brings his sculptures to life. The use of primary colors for the simplest pieces reinforces their freshness and spontaneity.

Nicolas exploits all the possibilities offered by the versatile material of glass. The pieces are sometimes blown or sculpted from the mass at over 1150°C, invested with chromatic effects and varied inclusions. Transparencies, opacities and other textural effects can be observed on polished or frosted surfaces. The suppleness of the gesture combines with the ductility of the material, and Nicolas makes his creatures evolve in a setting where glass combines with wood, minerals, stainless steel and silicone to create his fish, snakes and cacti.

The artist's imagination reveals its sources: comics, animated films, but also the observation of animal...and human habits, in the course of exhibitions organized by the galleries that represent him, in Europe and the United States.
