Catherine Cazau lives and works in the Drôme region of France. 

She produces two types of work: works on paper, where she often mixes engraving, painting, signs and various collages, and works on canvas, where either texture is very present (and where signs and collages are sometimes mixed), or prints make up the bulk of the work.

She enjoys scratching and incising the thick, multi-layered material on canvas, hastily writing illegible texts or inscribing derisory, insignificant signs, just for the plastic beauty of it.

In this way, Catherine Cazau's canvases become mineral expanses, like silent walls, sometimes furrowed, or covered with screen veils, or chatty walls covered with imprints.

She uses a variety of textures to express or attempt to express the subtle, the non-tactile, the unspeakable, the invisible.

Her paintings are poetic spaces, spaces from within.

For her, painting is a spiritual quest, a search for the absolute.
